“Through”和“across”是两个常见的单词，尤其是在描述移动方向或者所在位置时，常常会用到这两个单词。那么，这两个单词有什么区别呢？
首先，“through”常用来描述穿过、贯穿的意思，表达物体从某一方穿过另一方的情形。比如，我们可以说：“The river flows through the city.”（这条河贯穿了整个城市。）“She walked through the door and into the room.”（她穿过门走进了房间。）
而“across”则用来描述横跨、跨过的意思，强调的是物体之间的距离。比如：“She swam across the river to reach the other side.”（她游过河去到了对面。）“The bridge stretches across the valley.”（这座桥横跨在山谷上。）
此外，“through”还可以表示完成、贯彻的意思。比如：“We’ve been through a lot together, haven’t we?”（我们一起经历了很多，不是吗？）“I need to go through these documents before the meeting.”（我需要在会议前阅读这些文件。）“Across”则常用来表示在。。。的另一边、遍及整个。。。等等。比如：“He lives across the street from me.”（他住在我对面的街上。）“There are stores and restaurants across the city.”（整个城市都有商店和餐馆。）
“through”指向具体的两个物体之间的联系，强调贯穿，比较抽象；而“across”一般用来比较距离宽度、高度等，比较具体。 英语当中存在很多类似的单词，在日常学习中建议多加注意，提高自己的语感和语言表达水平。
